Supper/Dinner Time! What's on the menu ?

I ordered a meal from a new restaurant last night and I did not enjoy it at all. It was an Indian meal, but it had very weird flavours. I'm annoyed as I had been excited that they opened near me. I'm not sure if I was very unlucky with my choices. Even the chutneys and pickles tasted weird to me.

The only thing I liked were the vegetable samosas (well, I ate one of them out of the three) but the outside of them tasted like a Cornish pastie, rather than a samosa!

I think I will freeze the other two samosas along with the main vegan chicken dish to try another day. The chicken dish tasted more like Chinese food! I think I might try having the chicken with a veggie stir fry and rice at some point.

I had some green olives and cherry tomatoes while I was waiting for my pizza to cook in the oven. It was the Valsoia pizza that has asparagus, courgette, broccoli and spinach on it so it feels healthier than normal vegan store bought pizzas. It was delicious. I haven't had one of those in ages.

It was a very early dinner or extremely late lunch so I will have something else later.

Yesterday I went back to home-cooking and “away from take-aways”- a trend I hope I will sustain as much as possible in the coming weeks. I cooked farro (with pine nuts and sun-dried tomatoes mixed in) and topped it with unfrozen, home-made, vegetable stew.

For dessert: I had my ‘mashed banana mix’ (including nuts, dates, dried berries, cinnamon, dried coconut shaves and tahini).

It was all very good.

Yesterday I was invited to a dinner buffet: I did quite well ;-), as I skipped all the heavy dishes (like oily pasta) and, instead, I filled half of my plate with raw salad; the other half was filled with steamed vegetables; I just added one spoon of rice. For dessert: I skipped the pie and heavy custard and instead had the fruit salad. It was all simple, but I really enjoyed it: not only I did not miss the heavy dishes, but I appreciated both the meal and the conversation much more - and felt better afterwards.

My hope is that such choices become an automatic habit- a standard routine that goes on ‘auto-pilot’ and does not require too much thinking- whenever I go to buffets :)

Yesterday I had left-over farro (cooked with sun-dried tomatoes and pine nuts)- on top of it, I poured eggplant stew (which I made previously and defrosted for yesterday’s dinner) plus lentils (cooked with carrots), also defrosted, on the side. Very nice. To add spiciness, I experimented by mixing a little wasabe (do not have hot sauce at the moment).

For dessert: I had my ‘mashed banana mix’ (with crushed walnuts, dried berries, dates, dried coconut shaves, cinnamon, a spoon of almond butter and a drizzle of tahini). Very nice
