Health Issues The Everything Covid 19 Thread

I’m just amazed at how many people are getting sick and it not being covid. My granddaughter had a cold for four days. SIL is now sick with a bad cold/sore throat. So far he’s negative but will test again tomorrow or the next day since it’s only his first day with symptoms.
A few people have had fevers and still tested negative for covid. I guess masks really help even for the not so serious viruses. Makes me want to wear one forever lol. I hate being sick.

@PTree15 that is frustrating. I don’t think any of us thought we would be doing this for this long.
I got invited to my husband‘s cousin‘s 80th birthday party in May and I’m not going to that. There’s going to be 60 people there and I’m just not ready. He will probably go.
I'm sorry you will miss that. It is very frustrating. My family has been trying to plan a cousins reunion, and not enough of us are up for that yet. We're hoping for next year. It'll be a big group. :D

My sister-in-law says she is feeling worse and worse. Her son has an ongoing headache. My husband and me both have bad coughs. I read it can go on for months. We sound like we smoke!
Yes I still have a cough from having it at the end of January! However did have laryngitis straight after so could be because of that.

Did you take antibiotics for your cough? I'm wondering if that would help us.

I get it. Certainly no judgment here. It’s been too long.

My main issue is with symptomatic people going out and about assuming “it’s just a cold”. You can’t be fine one day, wake up the next day with runny nose and think you’re fine because you test negative. It can take three days to test positive after symptoms appear. And yet, I’m not unsympathetic. I get why it’s happening. No one wants to isolate for three days with minor symptoms, only to find out it wasn’t covid after all. Not after two years of being so confined. So this is where we are at now.
The paramedics I saw at xmas said it is definitely my husband's work that keeps infecting me so I could be as careful as I want and stay at home and isolate but I could still catch it with the amount of people he interacts with in London on a daily basis. We would have to stay confined to different parts of the house if I was really trying to be careful, lol.

Even getting on a train in London I'm near loads of people and masks wouldn't help me. It's a very annoying situation. I can't wait to move out of London but then I still have the issue of my husband's job!

We just got another text about the 4th booster. It said if we are eligible that we will get a text 3 months from the 3rd jab. I think I had my third jab on the 1st December. I think it is only people over 75 and with serious health conditions for the spring booster, though.

I read yesterday that there is an autumn 4th booster jab rollout planned so I think I will be in that group.

Hi everyone, have fallen off the map again...

havent been doing much.. down in the dumps.. havent even gone to the supermarket...

So glad to hear from you. I hope things get better for you!

My cough suddenly feels a lot better. If I caught it on the 4th and it is now the 27th so that lasted a few weeks. I've been sleeping so much this past week. A minimum of 12 hours a night. My husband's cough is a lot better too, although he hasn't slept well. He has had insomnia the past week but it is weird that both our coughs have cleared up at the same time.

I got a text today saying that I have been in contact with someone that has Covid and I need to order a PCR test but it was a random mobile number, not the NHS one, so I assume it is spam. I just blocked the number.

I thought by now I could move all my Covid paraphernalia to a shoe box on the top shelf in my closet. Instead I've moved it from a bag by the front door to its own box on a shelf in my linen closet.
BTW, my pharaphanalia has gotten very extensive. Various disinfectants, masks, wipes, travel size disinfectants and hand wash.
Then there is all the other stuff in my car, backpack, briefcase, etc.

I'm also looking forward to the day that this thread goes off to the thread cemetery. :mask:

I probably will continue to self isolate. I was one of the rare unlucky ones that are allergic to the mRna covid vaccines. I got the first jab, and didn't feel good for a long time. I waited for the second one until I had my blood test. They came back great, so I had the second jab. I started feeling bad during the day, and went into the emergency room, and spent 6 hours passed out after receiving allergy drugs in an IV.

Fortunately, I am fully retired, so I can fully self isolate because I don't need to go to work.

There is a Texas company that is coming out with a covid vaccine that is based on the traditional vaccine technology, rather than the mRna technology. The minute that I can get it, I will certainly take it. I have never had any problem with the regular vaccines.

This winter was really rough. Watching everything opening up and I can't go. I see everyone in the community room, and I just have to walk on past.

I went in to pick up my new glasses, and the woman told me I could take off my mask. I told her that I did have to wear my mask.

Yes, it's frustrating to watch the government and the general public pretending the pandemic is over. At the moment we have 85,000 registered cases per day here in the UK. Who knows how many unregistered cases. And this means in a week at least nearly 1% of the population was infected. And the numbers are still increasing, although the rate of increase isn't as steep now as it was previously. Hospital admissions and deaths are still increasing at a steep rate.

Of course, I do understand that people are mentally exhausted with the restrictions and just want this all to be over. And yes, the virus is generally not as deadly. But people are still dying from it, long covid is still a thing, and vulnerable people now need to be more careful than ever. Also, the economy side of it must be considered, but "living with covid" should not mean just ignoring the virus and going back to full normal. It should mean adapting society to live with sensible restrictions.

End of rant.

I find myself staying away from anyone who isn’t feeling well, even if they have a mild cold and test negative for covid. My daughter and her family are passing around a cold between them. SIL and grandkids had it. They are all testing and coming back as negative. But daughter just started with a sore throat and was going to spend an hour at my house yesterday. Vischer has been spending weekends with us and she picks him up on Sunday mornings. We decided rather than her coming inside with the kids and visiting for awhile, I would just bring V out to the car. At this point I don’t even want to catch the common cold. They can be quite uncomfortable.

Oh that is what I was going to say. I still have weird tastebuds. It feels like I can taste garlic really strongly if it is in anything. I had some carrots and I couldn't taste anything at all. Just the texture.

I can't remember if I said this but I was talking to a bar staff person in a pub last year and she said she couldn't taste anything at all since having Covid in 2020. It is people like her and my husband who have to have so much contact with the general public that catching Covid is inevitable.

I thought we were all supposed to be getting herd immunity to it. I heard that from someone who works in the NHS who said that was what should have happened back at the start of the year.
Interesting point. I haven't heard anything about herd immunity since the beginning.
My understanding is that herd immunity is very hard to achieve - and dependent on a whole bunch of things that in the beginning we didn't know about the virus.

A couple of the factors involved was how much immunity infected and vaccinated people have. Which I think is less than we expected. The mutations must be a factor too.

I sort of remember the experts talking about 75% being sort of the threshold. but some people thought that was an underestimation. Perhaps we need 85 or 90.

I believe we did reach herd immunity with various other viruses. Small pox, measles, comes to mind. It would be interesting to read why covid is different.
