Health Issues The Everything Covid 19 Thread

Not only is the mask mandate gone from work, the mandatory testing is also. We're still doing them weekly but now voluntary.
Last admin wanted to deny it, and dismiss it, this one just seems to want pat themselves on the back for the cases going down, and when they go back up? Blame?

It wasn't readily available in my area, and there were a lot of issues like recalls and production facilities.

It is OK, I just picked up a batch of N95 masks at the library and drugstore. I am super careful, and will continue to self isolate until the vaccine issue is sorted out.

I live in an elderly facility next to walking trails, parks, library, and shopping area. Pretty soon the weather will be warm enough for me to get out and do some fun stuff.

I feel like I don’t want it but will wait and see.

The cardiac electrophysiologist asked me if I was sure that I didn’t have covid because they are seeing a lot of arrhythmia issues from post covid patients. I said as sure as I can be. I was never really sick the last two years. It does make me wonder about the vaccine though, even though 2.5 months passed from the time of my second shot and the ER visit. And then I did get the booster a few months after that and didn’t get any worse. It’s hard to know what to do. I do know I don’t want to catch covid, even a mild case.

found out last night my older sister (73) has covid - she attended a shower for a grandchild on Friday night and one of the wives of another grandchild came, knowing that she had covid - I don't believe anyone was wearing a mask and she did not tell anyone she had it, at the time - my sister is already struggling with memory issues (possibly dementia it is unknown) and this will just add extra stress to already complicated life - needless to say my sister is very angry and I am too as although she is fully vaxed and boosted she does have high blood pressure

Anybody form an opinion on the fourth booster?

Yea, I said in an earlier post that it seems like a cash grab at this point.

I've received all 3 shots, and I will need a compelling reason to get a 4th and 5th and a 6th...

I fear we'll be forced to get more boosters as immunity wanes over time while the virus continues to circulate.

We can hope that the virus mutates further and weakens to a point where it really isn't a threat to life and long-term health, but I don't think that's a guaranteed outcome.

Do we know what the difference is between the covid vaccine and say, measles or polio? People are using the argument that vaccinated people are still getting covid so it’s pointless to get vaccinated, unlike polio or measles. Is it the mRNA factor? If this has been discussed I’m happy to just be pointed in the direction of the discussion. Or even a link. I’m not finding much when I do a search. Maybe I’m not inputting the right question.

.
The Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) published this study of COVID mortality among vaccinated and unvaccinated adults in Buenos Aires, Argentina: Evaluation of a COVID-19 Vaccine Campaign and SARS-CoV-2 Infection and Mortality in a Middle-Income Country

"A 2-dose vaccination schedule was associated with an 88.1% (95% CI, 86.8%-89.2%) reduction in documented infection, 96.6% (95% CI, 95.3%-97.5%) reduction in all-cause death, and 98.3% (95% CI, 95.3%-99.4%) reduction in COVID-19–related death. A single dose was associated with a 47.2% (95% CI, 44.2%-50.1%) reduction in documented infection, 65.8% (95% CI, 61.7%-69.5%) reduction in all-cause death, and 74.5% (95% CI, 66%-80.8%) reduction in COVID-19–related death."

This is where I am as well. I will continue to mask up in public places and crowds and to limit my exposure as much as possible. That said, I will attend my first concert in two years next week. Live music is a big deal to me, and I think at this point I need a mental health pick-me-up (it's been a rough 2022 so far). A friend gave me an N95 mask, and I will wear that to the show. I don't plan to take it off at all, so no drinking or eating. I plan to pack some food to eat beforehand. I'm driving to the train station and will take it into Boston. I'm not hitting up any bars for a pre-show drink, either.

That is staggering to me that a person would do that knowing that they have Covid. Unbelievably selfish of that woman.

Who are you going to see (if you don't feel like answering, I apologize for asking)?

I'm not sure. But I think it's two things: 1) the vaccine/antibodies seem to drop off somewhat in a few months, and/or: 2) the virus is still mutating with new variants, and someone's immune system might need to be "updated", like we sometimes have to do each season with the flu as they figure out which strains are going to be most prevalent each year.

No apology necessary! I'm going to see Jerry Cantrell from Alice In Chains. He put out a solo album last fall and is touring in support of it. He hasn't done a solo tour in almost 20 years. I'm pretty excited!

and now my older brother has it too - a different city to my sister - he works with refugees in his home town, helping them find housing and moving etc and last week he did 3 moves and some were not wearing masks.... he is doing better, so far, than my sister who is feeling very fatigued still and it has been over a week for her - hoping my sister-in-law doesn't get it as she recently had surgery from which she is still recovering
