TV & Film The TV Room

Have just watched the Netflix short series (8 episodes in total) “Transatlantic” and can only warmly endorse it.

Set in 1940 Marseille it tells the story of a valiant group of people who try to help refugees, most of them Jewish, many of them artists and intellectuals, to escape before Nazi Germany can catch them, based on the true story of Varian Fry, who ran the “Emergency Rescue Committee” that helped between 2,000 and 4,000 refugees escape.

Not only is the story good and suspenseful, but also the international ensemble of actors is very good.

why only "warmly"?
what didn't you like?

sometime in the past I read a novel which maybe was also based on Varian Fry. But I can't remember its name. Oh, in the novel the main character was female. So change that to very loosely based.

I have not seen this in years. I love Toni Collette, but I forgot how awesome the rest of the cast was. I put this on because I have showtime fir a couple months due to my yellowjackets obsession.

I'm still on GG. I'm up to series 1, episode 16 now. The town they live in reminds me of the towns in the Christmas movies.

I am thinking how long it is going to take to watch all of the series. It is nice to watch something relaxing after watching really violent shows like Mindhunter, though!

we started watching Class of 07 last night - it's a bit strange and weird and yet we watched 3 episodes so far - seems like it might like Lord of the Flies only with women in their late twenties...

That was due to my not knowing that “warmly endorsing” something is not as good as “hotly endorsing” it, which is what I wanted to do.

Very good. thanks for the clarification.
Actually after I posted the question I started wondering if it was just a Geographical/ climate semantic issue. Warm here in California is probably Hot in Hannover.

That is absolutely possible! Just fired up my fireplace.
I turned off the pilot on my wall heater a few days ago. Even tho it gets pretty cold at night, now that it has stopped raining its nice and warm here inside during the day.

Also I don't people say hotly endorse.
More often they says something like strongly endorse. Or respectably endorse. or endorse with or without reservations.

I am loving the crazy Yellowjackets.
I have showtime, so I am rewatching United states of Tara. I completely forgot the amazing actors in the show except Toni Collette, I love.

last night we mostly watched Youtube and came across CNNs Anderson Cooper's The Whole Story - it is on youtube and in 5 short parts from April 16 - it is the story of the migrants walking the Darien Gap from Columbia to Panama... omg - the CNN crew walked it too and it is astoundingly awful
