Some weeks ago I discovered reruns of "Undercover Boss" on one of the cable networks. I started watching them because they seemed interesting, but then I lost interest because they're all basically the same. Only the names of the companies and the people change. The show goes like this:
One of the big muckety-mucks at a company (owner, CEO) goes undercover at one or more of their company's locations. This involves wearing a wig, and in the case of the men, facial hair, or removing existing facial hair, adopting a fake name, and pretending that they are part of a reality show in which they attempt to be a candidate for operating a new business, hence the cameras. What they're really out to do is discover why some locations are not performing well, or whatever. They do all the work that the regular employees do, and get to know the other employees at the location(s). They discover bad and good attitudes, bad and good work ethics, bad company policies, frustrated employees, broken equipment, etc. They're constantly talking to the camera about the jobs they do and are nervous about being "outed". They discover that it's hard work working for their company and get a warm and appreciative feeling for the employees who bust their butts working for them. Finally at the end of the show, they get a few of the employees they've worked with together, reveal their true self, and tell them about the changes they're making to the locations and/or company policy, or whatever. The employees are shocked and delighted. Some get promotions. All of them are also given large amounts of money to help with housing, school, personal pampering, a new car, whatever they need. The employees are stunned and tearful. The owner/CEO goes back to his or her normal self and everything is okay again.
Seriously, all you need to do is change the names, locations and the type of business and it's the same single episode over and over.
