TV & Film The TV Room

I watched the Krampus episode of Grimm the other night and it was fun so I have been rewatching series 3.:)

Nearly finished Jessica Jones. Love it! What an amazing show. Also extremely weird how David Tennant can look so different (not physically, but his expression is so evil that he looks like a completely different person - good actor!)

I watched the first season of iZombie on Netflix. I was supposed how much I enjoyed it. It looked so stupid, but it was super cute.

Danni and Darren blew a whole £1,200 on their offspring – most of it on tick

I watched the above programme this morning ( Christmas on the Poverty Line on Channel 5) and was amazed that the family on benefits spent over a £ 1000 on their children's presents. I don't think that most people who have an average income spend so much money. I wonder whether they are giving out the right message to their children ?

^ Did you see the Eat Well For Less Christmas special? I cannot believe how much they were spending on food! They were hosting a party for 16 friends and they were spending £1,400.

BBC iPlayer - Eat Well for Less? - At Christmas - The Goff Family

I must have missed it. I'll see whether there's a repeat on BBC 2. I love the programme and just can't believe how some
people waste their money.

I suppose it's easy to overspend if you're serving caviar, foie gras, lobster and expensive wines.

I thought Christmas was all about the simplicity of enjoying a good home cooked meal with family and friends. It
shouldn't be about overspending.

I think that people living in poverty, who can't see a way out, just want to make their children happy in the present. If there is no bright future in sight, people live for today. Also, the parents were probably never taught about budgeting.

From the article:

"Most admirable was Karla, whose surname was not Micawber, but should have been. She refused to get into debt to fund her £210 Christmas budget, carefully husbanded from savings and doing without for the rest of the year. Her children, especially Kayley, 12, were mature and understanding beyond their years, and extremely well turned out, if that doesn’t sound too condescending. Through no fault of their own, these children get called “dossers”, “skanks” and “tramps” by their wealthier counterparts at school, just because they haven’t got the latest Nikes."

Gregg and Chris managed to get the bill down by about £800 but they were still spending quite a lot.

Yes, there is a UK financial expert called Martin Lewis and he was campaigning to get financial info taught in schools. One of my friends is on disability benefits and she got a payday loan which has eye-wateringly high interest rates. I was trying to explain to her what a bad idea that loan was but she just wasn't getting what I was saying.

The morning show interviewed the mother who posted this picture of the 300 gifts she bought for her children. Whether you can afford it or not, it's ridiculous.

We've been watching the two first episodes of The Man in The High Castle and the first episode of Vikings. Both seemed kinda interesting to me.

We've started on the second season of a New Zealand show called The Almighty Johnsons on Netflix. It's pretty entertaining. The old gods & goddesses (i.e. the ones featured in Norse mythology) have been reincarnated in the bodies of modern-day New Zealanders, albeit with reduced powers. According to a prophecy, to get their full powers back Odin must be united with Frigg. So Odin and his brothers set out on a quest to find her.
@blues and @Freesia - now that you're both around again, I was curious if you've watched this series and what you thought of it? :) Quite a bit of silliness and scantily clad romance, if I remember correctly, but still quite entertaining.

I watched a repeat Eat Well for Less. It was about a couple and their two daughters who live in Kent. They were throwing out so much good food because of the sell by dates. Furthermore they were also throwing out the contents of the freezer regularly.
They were such a lovely couple of people and I must say that I really enjoyed watching the programme.
