Literature What are you currently reading?

Yesterday I read "The Waiting" which is Michael Connelly's latest book featuring Detective Renee Ballard. Harry Bosch is also in the book and his daughter Maddie who is also a police officer. This is a really good murder mystery and I read it really fast as it keeps your interest throughout the book. Detective Ballard heads a cold case crime unit and they are working on a famous murder from 77 years ago as well as a more recent rape/murder case. I've read quite a few of the Harry Bosch books from years ago and you can count on Connelly to write a good book.

I picked this new book up browsing the new book section. Again I read a series out of order but this is only book 2 and was fine on its own though there were a few times it referred to the previous book. Hopefully the library has the first one. It is "Beyond Reasonable Doubt" by Robert Dugoni. As the title suggests, it is a legal thriller. There is murder, a sociopath, and courtroom drama. Fast read and really good!

One of Dugoni's books arrived and I started it yesterday, The Jury Master, it is very good and exciting, thank you for the author recommendation, I also have Damage Control, of his, to read when this one is done.

I read The Waiting a couple of weeks ago and loved it!

I'm still only on three books for this year. I did start my 4th book today. I've been busy the past two weeks. I will read a few more chapters tomorrow.

I found another cozy mystery series by Sarah Graves. This is called "Death by Chocolate Milkshake." Why so many of these books have bakery owner characters I do not know but this is like the third series I have found that centers around a bakery. This one also offers milkshakes. It is a good mystery with our two bakers getting their noses into solving a murder. Quick read and will read more of this author. There is a recipe at the end of the book. :D

Yes, I had also seen that this has come out, ordered it and devoured it over the last weekend.

Always a great story. Might start another re-read of the Harry Bosch books with « Black Echo ».
Think I have read the whole series (25 books, 31 if you also add the Lincoln Lawyer books where he appears) some 3 or 4 times now, never really gets boring.

In one of the books I was reading the main character's favourite book was The Little Prince (1943) by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and so I downloaded it and am reading it. I thought I had read it before, apparently not (it was A Little Princess by Frances Hodgson Burnett 1905). My mother owned a lot of books and so I was reading almost before I could talk and so many of the books were from the early 1900's. Frances Hodgson Burnett also wrote the Secret Garden and Little Lord Fauntleroy.

Currently reading Say Nothing: A True Story of Murder and Memory in Northern Ireland By Patrick Radden Keefe. It's about the troubles and has been a great read so far! It's nonfiction but reads like novel - excellent writing!

I recently saw the movie on Disney Plus and found it very good.

Today I finished "Shield Maiden" by Sharon Emmerichs. This is her debut novel and it was a winner for me. This is a fantasy re-imagining a portion of the medieval poem, Beowulf. The main character is Fryda, a young woman who has always wanted to be a shield maiden which is a female warrior but an injury leaves her with a crippled hand. There is betrayal and intrigue, a little romance, magic, and a dragon. Good fun!

Precious and Fragile Things by Megan Hart - I actually finished the last few pages between my last post and this one - I don't think I have ever read such a 'different' and yet compelling book - it's about motherhood and relationships and... actually I can't really describe it.
