Literature What are you currently reading?

@Mikkel - wow, just saw your challenge on FB - that's so COOL! (Maybe youve posted about it in this thread, but I don't post much here - that needs to change.)

As for celebrity books, I don't really read them either, but I loved "Becoming" by Michelle Obama.

Thanks. It's quite fun too. I've never done such a big reading challenge before.

And I'm going to take a look at her too. You know you are into celebrities when you have to search for a favourite. :p

For those who are not on my Facebook. I'm 42 books into it now, and have 32 books left to finish all boxes. I though first it would be undoable, but found out I need to read 8 books each month rest of the year now, so I think it will go. I have 10 on my list on Storytel now and three on my night stand. :p And one in my bag at work...

I read Jurek's book also. it was actually one of the three books I originally bought to help me decide whether or not to go vegan/vegetarian or whether to continue eating meat. The others were "Vegan: The New Ethics of Eating" by Erik Marcus and "Eat Like You Care by Gary Francione and Anna Charlton. I figured it'd be nice if one of the three books wasn't just ethical arguments and facts and horrors but more of a lifestyle story that would be easy to read and break up the heavier reading of the other two.

Bridget Jones - a former girlfriend of mine made me watched the first movie with her to help me understand women and I just kind of laughed at it, but I saw it again some years later and it is quite good.

I am currently reading Joe Romm's What You Need to Know book on climate change (second reading) and Follow the Rabbit Proof Fence. This is about three young girls who were mixed race aboriginal/white children who were taken away from their parents in colonial Australia to be educated elsewhere, but walked back to Jigalong even though it was 1,000 miles or something. I also went very briefly to Jigalong some years ago.

I just finished reading a biography of Lou Reed. He wrote some of the most amazing lyrics over a career of 40+ years. He passed away in 2013 at 71 years of age. Though he wasn't the biggest commercial success, his influence is worldwide. Funny that many younger people have no idea who he is. My friends Sherri and Kevin who are in their 40's, stopped by and I told them about the book and they had no clue who he was! o_O
I want to read Michelle Obama's book!

His song "Perfect day" is one of my favourites!:ma:

Jack London's book about when he lived as a tramp finnished. Not sure about the English title.

I wonder to start on Astrid Lindgren's "Mio Min Mio" now. That is so great childhood memories.

I also found out I missed a box on Level 1 in this challenge, so I need to add that one too. It's so many books and so little time. :p At least I get an Outstanding grade, that is the best. :p

I have just finished a wonderful book about a famous "library cat." The book is "Dewey: The Small-Town Library Cat Who Touched the World." What made this book so special for me was that the town is Spencer, Iowa, which is in the area I grew up! The book was written in 2008 and the story began in 1988 which is many years after I was no longer living up there. Places I know are all through this book and of course the story of Dewey Readmore Books is touching and heartwarming. Evidently the book was a bestseller when it was published. All cat lovers should read this book!

I just finished "Steve & Me" by Terri Irwin. It is a wonderful love story of her life with the famous Crocodile Hunter. It was published in 2008 so was written right after he was killed by a manta ray in 2006. Of course I cried at the end. It is well worth reading!
I now have Michelle Obama's book to read and another about an astronaut.

Ready Player One.

It's awsome!!
I'm in a library right now... and I've seen that book several times when browsing the shelf (I tend to read sci-fi and fantasy mostly). Somehow I never bother picking it up... gotta fix that. It's not a big, huge sci-fi book like "Dune" or "Jerusalem".

I just finished "Ready Player One". I liked it, generally. It wasn't as violent as sci-fi usually is, but there were two instances of murder (with one of those occasions causing the death of more than one person)- and the world depicted in the book is definitely dystopian. I really liked the main characters of Parzival, Aech, and Art3mis. I think I finished it in two days.

They often say that books are better because your imagination can come up with more astounding images than today's special effects experts... but i don't know about that. Some of my favorite TV episodes and movies have been amazing (although I guess I wasn't that amazed, since I choose not to have a functioning television... I spend too much time moping around as it is and TV wouldn't help at all)

ETA: I forgot to mention- I got a kick out of the numerous 1980's culture references, such as the video games I used to enjoy (before I got that out of my system). I haven't seen the movie. I did get a similar movie- "Tron"- out of the library a long time ago but I didn't like it.

I have count down on my reading challenge now. I have 23 books left to read, not included the under an houer left of the last book of the Divergent series (I will be finnished with it before I reach work). Then I have a book on under 4 houers, before I start on the Milennium series that is quite long. But I fitted all of them into the reading challenge. :)

I still haven't found a favorite celebrity, but no rush. I have decided to pick categories now in the end, than toss a dice. So it can wait until I decide who is my favorite. :P

I need a 2019 book too, so wonder to pick up the latest Jo Nesbø book from the library one day. :)

I have finished an autobiography of an astronaut named Leland Melvin. The name of the book is "Chasing Space" and he tells his story of his journey to become an astronaut. He was one of the specialists that traveled to the International Space Station on the shuttles before that program was discontinued. It's a good book about a courageous and determined African American man. While there is diversity at NASA, there is still a ways to go. This book goes into that as well. Interesting read!

I'm soon finnished with the first of the Ravenring series. :) 100 pages left from it, so I'll probably finnish it tonight. Then I have two more books left in that serie, before I need to finnish up the rest of the paper books for my challenge. :p

On audiobook I've started on the second book of the Milennium series of Stieg Larsson. I'm listening on them on Swedish. I think the translation of a couple of the titles are a bit odd from Swedish to English. The first book is called "Men who hate women" (Män som hatar kvinnor), but the title in English are "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo".

You all have an interesting mix!

I am currently reading Desperate Remedies. I have decided to read all the Thomas Hardy novels in chronological order (excluding a few minor ones). This is the first one. Apart from this one, most of the others will be a second reading.

I am going to do the same with the Jane Austen novels.

I'll read lots of other books in the meantime so it'll take some years for me to do them all.

My book number 70 for 2019 is finnished. "The Crimes of Grindlewald" screenplay. I have both the screenplays of "Fantastic Beast and Where to Find Them" and "The Cursed Child" on my list, and wonder to read them before I contintue on the Ravenring series.

I'm going to try to install Storytel on my tablet, and read some books on it. If I like to use a tablet, perhaps I get a kindle or something in the future. :)

20 books left on my challenge now. I'm a bit "stressed" about getting finnished with it, I really would love to make it. :D And only fun and positive stressed. :D It's just so fun being able to read a LOT again now. :D
