Literature What are you currently reading?

Yes, I have also read his Thrawn series many years ago and liked it best of all the Star Wars stories I have read.

(Although, to be fair, forever the best Star Wars book I ever read was the original, which I read back in 1977 or 1978, when the movie came out but I was not 12 yet and my parents did not allow me to watch it. So I went to the library and rented it out, and envied my school friends whose parents allowed them to watch it)

I have now finished the Temeraire series and I will miss reading about this incredible being! I can see more stories could be developed if the author chose to carry on but I guess that won't happen.

Check out this collection of short stories, Golden Age.
My library doesn't have it tho.

Also a lot of fan fiction is out there.
This site is a good place to start.

This story is supposed to be pretty good

Finished "Maximum Ride: School's out- forever" book 2 in that Patterson YA series. Good stuff! Now I hope the library has the last 2 in the series. My reservation for "Golden Age" is ready so will go to the library tomorrow after work.

Well, just discovered that there are 9 books in the Maximum Ride series and the library does not have any more of the older ones. The Kindle versions are expensive so I wonder if I can find any free ones.

Do. you know any school age kids? These books are super popular with the YA crowd. So if you know anyone in school, maybe they can get it from Their library. Middle schools might be the best bet.
Oh, wait, you live in Florida. Weren't they banned? I'm surprised you can find them at all.

I don't know any kids! My grandchildren are in college! LOL The books were banned in Martin County I think it was, not Volusia or anywhere else to my knowledge.

You could volunteer at the nearest school library and then you can borrow their books. :)

To paraphrase Matt Groening, Middle school is a holding pen to help the kids thru their formative snotty years, to prevent them from torturing elementary school kids, but also to isolate them from HS students who would give them the beatings they so richly deserve.

The special effects of the first "Star Wars" movie were absolutely spectacular!!!! BUT....... before I saw it, I read a review of it which said something to the effect that it had only "...the merest dollop of bloodshed now and then".... EXCUSE ME???? Darth Vader chokes a rebel to death not 5 minutes into the movie, shortly after a number of them have died fighting off Storm Troopers who are boarding their disabled ship. Later, the Death Star blows an entire inhabited planet to pieces. I'll admit that the deaths in the film showed almost no "gore", but it was extremely violent (as is most sci-fi and fantasy I've seen).

I lost interest in that "Green Rider" novel I mentioned above and didn't finish it.

Finished "Golden Age and other stories" and it was good fun with some great art work at the start of each story. I think I will go to the library and just look randomly for something tomorrow.

how about another alternative history, maybe The King's Daughter. By Vonda McIntyre. It even has some similarities to Termaraine. Louis the IVX and mermaids.
If you are in the mood for some more YA, have you ever read any Tamora Pierce.
if you think you might like some time travel science fiction try out Connie Willis.
or my favorite author, Lois McMaster Bujold.

All of those authors are prolific so you could probably just be successful looking thru the shelves.
Heck the way you devour books, you should get one of each.

I have finished "the book of two ways" by Jodi Picoult. I picked it because I have read a couple of her other books and they were really good. I didn't enjoy this one quite as much though her writing is top notch and you get drawn into her character's lives. This is the story of Dawn who left behind a promising career as an Egyptologist when her mother was dying. The book is written in flashbacks describing her two distinct lives. What takes this book down, is the extreme details of the study of Egyptology and hieroglyphic translations. Way way too much detail that I didn't care about so skimmed over. Also her husband is a quantum physicist and there is stuff about that too. It also deals with the difficult subject of death and dying and complicated relationships. There is a lot going on in this book. If you are really into Egyptology, you would probably like it more than I did! Still a decent read.

I'm probably going to start reading Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine or the Mindhunter book this week. I bought the Mindhunter book after watching the TV show.
