Today I finished "All the way gone" by Joanna Schaffhausen which is the newest addition in a series about a woman who was a police officer but is now a PI. This thriller asks the question "Is there such a thing as a good sociopath?" The author has a doctorate in psychology so the discussions of sociopaths are accurate. This is a really good book with a huge twist at the end. I am going to look for more books in this series.

Today I read "Long Gone" by Joanna Schaffhausen which is another book about Detective Annalisa Vega. Since I read the newest book first, I am going back in time with her. LOL This is another really good thriller with twists and turns and I read the whole book this afternoon. In this one, Vega is still with the Chicago PD and her partner is her ex-husband. I will have to find the first two books to know the whole story. Good writing and interesting characters.

I just read Into the Woods by Tana French. It's the first book in the Dublin Murder Squad. Tana French was recommended to me by my sister. But she recommended a different book. It's in a different series and when I googled to see which book I should read first, The answer was Into the Woods.
Mixed feelings on this book.
On the plus side, a very well crafted book. The prose goes beyond skilled to artistic.
The mystery aspect is excellent. Follows all the rules for a whodunit. All the suspects and all the relevant clues are revealed in the first 100 pages and I did not solve the mystery in my head till about the same time one of the detective did. Strangely, in the middle of the book I completely forgot that it was a whodunit and I wasn't actively trying to solve the mystery in my head. Not sure if that is a plus or a minus. and I'm not sure that is something the author intended or even could have intended.
On the minus side, a lot of foreshadowing. Maybe that isn't a minus for most readers. but I hate foreshadowing. The author definitely influences the readers emotions. unfortunately the emotion it elicited from me was dread.
Still, I'll probably read another book by her soon.

I got a new book suggestion in one of my reading lists and when I looked it up, I found there was an earlier book so I got on the waiting list for the new one and actually got the first one from the library. I finished it today and picked up the next one so perfect timing! It is "Yours for the Taking" by Gabrielle Korn. These books are described as "queer dystopian". The majority of the characters are of the LGBTQ+ community and it is about climate change destroying the world. A mind blowing story about radical feminism gone off the rails on a dying Earth. Really good! Ready to see what other trials the characters face in the new book "The Shutouts".

My goal is 105 books this year. It was 100 last year and I went over by several. I love Coben!
That is a lot!

I do read a lot too, I didn't keep count last year, but if I set a challenge then I will see if I am using my Kindle Unlimited or if I should cancel it.

Just finished The Likeness (Dublin Murder Squad #2) by Tana French.
I think I liked this book more than the last one. I had mixed feelings about the last one and my feelings are mixed for this one, too, The solution wasn't as surprising this time around. And the feeling of dread I got from the last book wasn't as profound. The main character, detective, Cassie, behaved in some various explicable ways. The author did try to explain it away and maybe further explanations would have damaged the plot or mystery. As they were happening they didn't make sense and looking back they still don't make sense. In a few instances, Cassies behavior seems out of character. Incongruities.
I still want to read The Searcher and The Hunter. And I may even read the next book in this series. But I don't think I'm going to be a fan of Tana French.

Finished "The Shutouts" and the story of the climate change apocalypse comes to a close for a few of the characters. I don't know if another book will be coming or not but there are people whose story was not concluded. This was a very scary depiction of a not too distant future. Government conspiracies and wild scenarios throughout the book. There is also lots of love and many relationships as people struggle to survive. Very good books!

Needed something lighter so read "No Paw to Stand On" by Laurie Cass. This is the newest in a cozy mystery series called The Bookmobile Cat Mysteries and was a fun quick read. Murder in a small town in Northern Michigan solved by our bookmobile librarian who talks to her cat Eddie.
