OSes Windows 10: Free upgrade for Win 7 & 8 users

Thanks for the info...I will see how far I get! :)

Actually, I clicked on the Norton icon and did a scan and now it says I am protected, but I will look into the other ones you mentioned.

They just asked for feedback...I told them I was going to throw this computer out the "Window" (pun intended) and buy an Apple laptop since I love my iphone...hahahahaha.

Lol... Well the thing is, Windows 7 is 10 years old. I think Windows 10 is a smoother transition if you used Windows 8 or 8.1 and if not there's some things that are different to get used to.

Not for me...I clung to XP until the bitter end, lol. If I can get to the point where I am comfortable paying my bills and shopping, I'll be fine! :)

I agree that Norton is not what it use to be. Here is an article:
The Best Free Antivirus Utilities for 2016

I use AVG on my desktop and tablet and Avast on my phone. I have never had a virus issue. I upgraded to Win 10 from Win 7 and I agree it is somewhat of a learning curve but since most tasks are done through the browser, it is really not that different.

I've had Norton NIS for 3 years now, and never had a virus issue. I've tried both AVG and Avast free and both let a virus in that had been around for a while and was well known. You get what you pay for.

Maybe we don't watch as much porn as you do? :D

Thanks, Chryssie!

I had Norton years and years ago, then switched to McAfee which did not protect my computer and let a virus in. That was an expensive fix. I paid one of the I. T. guys from work to fix it. Never again. I could have just bought a new computer. I went back to Norton because it's offered free from the cable company. And surprise, surprise, I tend to stick with the familiar.

Don't pass out or anything but I'm starting to like some things, now that I'm adjusting to the change that I fight so much. I like the tile/appy set up, kind of like how the phone is, with all my bookmarks.

The great thing about Internet is I can google any questions/problems I have. There's almost always a solution. Of course, that doesn't mean I won't still come here to whine and get input from you guys. [emoji4]

You're exactly right about that. Searching Google will help with almost anything.

I can't think of one Pro. My computer guru who charges $100 an hour said that he is making money hand over first uninstalling Win 10 for customers who hate it. I don't have win 10 but there is a lot of people on here complaining about it and asking how to change it back

Frankly I don't understand why people are disliking it so much. It's Windows, the same as it has been for years. Some methods have changed, some things have been moved to different places. But in the end it's still Windows, and far less of a departure from Windows 7 than Windows 8/8.1 were. Actually I take back what I first said, I totally understand why there seems to be so many people not liking it. It's not because there's anything wrong with Windows 10, and for the most part there certainly isn't. It comes down to the mere fact that people want things to stay the same. People HATE change even when perhaps it's for the better.

I don't know, for me personally; Perhaps I'm not phased by it because I've used so many different operating systems outside of Microsoft Land and have seen so many different approaches to desktop graphical user interfaces in my lifetime. Having that sort of experience makes learning the changes a rather mundane feeling thing after doing it so often in the past.

Easy does it, there! Lol [emoji4]

You hit the nail straight on the head. I totally fear change, especially when I've finally conquered something and become comfortable/good at it. The fear is that the change will be too hard for me and I won't be able to do something I've been doing for a long time. The thought of losing the ability to use the Internet is terrifying. I depend on it for everything. Irrational? Sure. But fear does that.

I'm doing ok with it so far but I still haven't figured out why, when I put a shortcut on my desktop for my documents, every time I log out then back in, the shortcut is gone. Then it takes me awhile to find it again. It's annoying to have to click the folder on the bottom and remember the several steps it takes to find my stuff, when all I had to do with W7 was click start and then click documents.

And I'm tired of the message when I sign on, telling me my files are right where I left them. That may be the case...they are in there...but finding and getting to them is a PIA. I realize it's me, that I just don't know what I'm doing. But it's still frustrating. I don't need this stress in my life, lol.

Lol totally calm, sorry if that sounded snippy. Totally wasn't my intention :)

Overall nicely said. That's pretty much exactly how I imagine it being for people.

As for your issue I don't understand that either. Did you try adding your Documents to the start menu like I described in an earlier reply?

I also don't understand why you're still seeing the "Your files are right where you left them", you should only have seen that when you first upgraded and booted to the new desktop for the first time.

I don't like Windows Anything and never have, lol. I use it at work, still on win 7 there. I had a laptop with 8 when it first came out, and was so horrified I gave it to my daughter. I use linux at home.

I'm going to be honest as can be here. If I didn't enjoy playing my MMORPG's and such I'd say **** you Microsoft and good riddance. I would have a Mac with the latest OS X on it, and a PC running Linux. This is how I was before I got into the games, and if there were a reasonable and stable way to have those games on Linux or Mac I'd take it. Which Linux distribution are you running these days btw? :)

I didn't take it as you being snippy. I think you are smart and adaptable so understandably confused by everyone's whining, lol.

So here's where I am now. By some "miraculous" occurrence, (I didn't do anything, I swear), I only had to click two times for find my documents, aaaaaaand....I managed to get them in the start menu, now! :starshower: Thanks for that. Yahoo opened as my home page when I clicked Google Chrome and all of my shortcuts are still in the tool bar on the top of my homepage. So I'm not whining anymore, at least for now. I'm in pretty good shape, at the moment. I just need to feel safe doing my banking and shopping online. I haven't looked into alternative protection, yet. Still with Norton but the warnings stopped, I did a scan, and everything is "green" and it says I'm protected. I'm almost there.

Sounds like you're in a good position now. You should be fine to do your shopping and banking.
