News 2016 U.S. Presidential election - the highs and lows

Its not even my election, but I feel really edgy about it for some reason.

I just saw what DT said about it being "our Independence Day", that is what Boris Johnson said in a speech about Brexit just before the referendum here.

I was thinking that one of the main things I've been thinking about during this election is that a lot of (white male) Republicans have this pull yourself up by your bootstraps attitude, but then they complain about losing jobs and their quality of life being low. Why don't they take their own advice? :pIt seems contradictory.

I just voted, and I have a useful tip:

If you recently moved and changed your polling location, but did not change the address on your drivers license, bring a current utility bill that has you name and current address.

When I went to vote, I showed the lady my license and she pointed out that the address was different from her records. Luckily, I planned on mailing a utility bill after voting and was able to show it to her to prove my residency.

Definitely not your imagination. When I read 'Forget any alleged sexual assault' in line 5, that was already a strong giveaway.

And it gets progressively worse, until

Do you believe that the fetus inside a pregnant woman is a tissue mass and that a woman should be able to rid her body of that tissue mass at any time during the nine months prior to that tissue mass being born? Do you believe that tissue mass only becomes a human being once it is outside the woman’s body? Do you believe that your tax dollars should be used to allow anyone who chooses, for whatever reason, to rid their body of that tissue mass?

So, yes, apart from being patently untrue (there certainly are no legal abortions in the 9th month, unless there are life-threatening conditions), it is also written in a very inflammatory way. Not much to add there...

Democrats lost the House and Senate tonight. Trump is all but the winner, but Hillary is not conceding tonight because not all the results in certain states are tallied.

I feel like I've been sucker-punched in the gut. Those of you who hate Hillary must be happy.

Of course they're happy. If it were the other away around we'd be ecstatic. The only way I'm going to survive this mentally and emotionally is to go into denial mode and keep telling myself that America voted and that everything is going to be ok.

I'm so glad I wasn't over confident thinking that Hillary was a slam dunk. It would have been that much harder.

This is what democracy looks like: racism, misogyny, homophobia, xenophobia...

Interesting. Let's talk about it after Clinton gets officially nominated as Democratic candidate ...

I promise, I won't gloat about President Trump getting elected, because I and the rest of humanity will feel equally screwed...

Well, I made a promise, back in May, so you will not be hearing anything from me on the subject ...

That will be my only reminder here, why this does not only concern Americans...

There’s no way around it: Donald Trump is going to be a disaster for the planet

So, is the stock market really going to crash? That's what I keep hearing.

Someone wrote this on FB. How much truth is there in it?

"The United States is more accurately described as oligarchy. Where the main power lies with the big six. Banking, Pharmaceutical, agriculture( Monsanto ) military-industrial complex, energy and media.

Regardless of who wins the presidency realize where you power lies. Within yourself is the grandest power of all. Unity with all your brothers and sisters.

Major industries are creating and will continue to create policy regardless of who the president is or what party is in power. Most laws passed today are written by industry lawyers not politician.

Focus on optimism toward the future and how you can use your individual power to collectively create positive change regardless of who sits as president of these United States."
